Most things people find in hair are NOT lice. Common impostors:
- Ant / baby ant – super common, especially if outside or near food
- Spider / mite – can wander into hair accidentally
- Flea – jumps, doesn’t live in hair
- Bed bug nymph – very rare in hair, usually on clothes/skin
- Lint / seed / debris – panic classic
Quick self-check (no panic yet)
Ask your friend:
- Did it jump? → not lice
- Did it crawl fast? → lice move slow
- Was there only one? → lice come in multiples
- Any itching for days? → lice itch builds over time
What lice actually look like (so you know)
- Tiny (sesame-seed size)
- Gray/tan
- Flat, slow crawlers
- Eggs (nits) are glued to hair, don’t flick off
